Kensington Gold Project
December 2007 - Press Release issued by the City & Borough of Juneau on December 12, 2007. To get the mine up and running and put residents of Juneau and the surrounding communities to work, Coeur Alaska and Southeast Alaska Conservation Council (SEACC), Lynn Canal Conservation, and the Juneau Group, Sierra Club committed earlier this year to work together to explore environmentally and commercially sound plans for opening the mine. The result was the previously reported agreement to ask jointly that the Forest Service and other regulatory agencies evaluate a new mine operating plan.  Click here to read more.

Top 10 Best Outdoor Towns
Once again Haines, Alaska has been recognized as one of "America's 10 Best Outdoor Towns". Sarah Tuff and Greg Melville's book, "101 Best outdoor Towns; Unspoiled Places to Visit, Live, and Play published this year contained a 6-page chapter on "Top 10 Best Outdoor Towns". Tuff and Melville researched access to national and state parks, major bodies of water, hiking and mountain biking trails, and ski and snowboard terrain; population; affordability; and such downtown resources as gear shops, brewpubs and coffee houses. Tuff and Melville's top-10 list was republished on the Microsoft News (MSN) website. These towns have not only back doors to some of the country's best adventure terrain, but also lively, livable communities that are dedicated to playing in and preserving the great American playgrounds. The MSN description of Haines says that while many Alaskan towns have "unparalleled access to the outdoors…only Haines has the Hammer Museum."   Click here to read more.
